Your Best Life…Eventually

“Jesus never promised us our ‘Best life now’, but our ‘Best Life…Eventually”. ~Brian Moll

I’ve come to know personally how strangely, and counterintuitively (by human standards) God works.  There are times in life when everything is going exactly the way we want it to go, but in other times we find ourselves face to face with an obstacle.  We should note that in difficult times, neither our approval or understanding of what God is doing in our lives is necessary.  God didn’t promise to give us a problem free existence, giving us everything we ask, nor did He promise that we would completely understand everything He is doing in our lives.

Take Mark 4 35:38 for example:

35 That day when evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” 36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. 37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”

39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

41 They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

Up until this point, the disciples were following Christ exactly where he told them to go and I’m sure that if there was anything they didn’t expect, it was encountering a storm while following Christ.  The same is true for us, in the course of following Christ, He may actually lead us directly to a storm.  If that day comes, don’t fear, God hasn’t lost control of our lives or the situation.

God doesn’t care about our comfort, but about our character.  Our heavenly Father has promised us to make us more like Christ.  To accomplish this, sometimes (certainly not always) the road we must travel will have some mountains to climb and storms to face, but in the process our relationship with God is made more genuine and our faith is deepened.  Don’t fear or doubt, God is working on you to make you more like Christ, and in the end that will give you “Your Best Life…Eventually.”

Very true. Interesting thing is, this kind of parydox is found throughout the scripture. Finding joy in living sacrificially, and at times in suffering, so others can find joy in Christ. Losing our lives in order to gain it. Great blog!

So true, Jordan! We would all love to have our best life NOW, but scripturally, that is not always the reality. It is comforting to know, however, that while we are going through storms, as our family currently is, that God is with us. I am also so grateful that He has already given us a glimpse of the miraculous blessing that awaits us!

Amen, I remember the first time I told my Pastor that in Heb 11:13 All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised.
Faith is having confidence in God that despite the outcome that we believe that he worked everything out for our good. Who says that our BEST LIFE must mean that every thing is going well. Some of the darkest hours of my life produced the wealthiest Character in me and the lives of those who follow me.
God taught me a long time ago that it isn’t about me, I had to lay down my life, and my thoughts of what the BEST LIFE would entail, and embrace his PURPOSE DRIVEN LIFE for me!
    Be Blessed on today!

Jordan, I usually speed read through long emails / blogs, BUT these words had me reading through deliberately, and re-reading. Thank you for sharing words to build / re-build our spiritual structure. Sometimes a structural breakdown in order to rebuild even stronger is necessary. The good thing is – the finish product will be even more beautiful!!
